FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hailed by her peers as a “vocal deity,” the gospel and R&B icon delivers an intimate Apple Music Live performance from Los Angeles, followed by a candid conversation with Ebro Darden at Apple Music’s New York headquarters
LOS ANGELES / NEW YORK — September 3, 2026
Grammy nominated vocalist and gospel luminary Kim Burrell today unveils an exclusive Apple Music Live session honoring the 25th anniversary of her landmark album Live in Memphis, a project widely credited with reshaping the sound of gospel and soul music and long admired by artists including Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, and Chaka Khan.
Celebrated for decades by her peers as one of the greatest voices in music, Burrell has earned the title “vocal deity” from fellow artists and industry tastemakers who point to her singular range, control, and improvisational gift as a standard few vocalists ever reach.
Filmed at Apple Music’s headquarters in Los Angeles, the session finds Burrell delivering three intimate performances drawn from Live in Memphis: “Everywhere You Go,” “Try Me Again,” and “Since Jesus.” She is joined by Berklee College of Music student and rising social media personality Gqamile “GQ” Mbuyazi, known to his fast growing online following as @blazefromthenewelite, whose accompaniment brings fresh texture and intimacy to Burrell’s most beloved recordings.
The celebration continues Friday, September 4, when Burrell sits down with Ebro Darden at Apple Music’s New York headquarters for a wide ranging conversation covering her influence on generations of vocalists, her creative process, her relationships, and the next chapter of her career.
“Kim Burrell’s voice does not just fill a room, it changes it,” said LJ Woodard, Chief Publicist and Business Affairs Officer for Kim Burrell and Executive Director of State X Inc. “Twenty five years later, Live in Memphis still sets the standard, and this Apple Music moment is a fitting tribute to an artist the industry itself calls a vocal deity.”
